MISSISSIPPI ACTION FOR PROGRESS, INC
LETTER TO HEAD START PARENTS FROM DR. BOBBY E. BROWN, CEO
MARCH 19, 2020
Dear Head Start Parents:
I hope that this letter finds you and your family doing well and getting through this difficult time safely. I am writing to give you an Update on the school closing for our Head Start Program. As many of you know, our centers are currently closed for safety reasons to prevent school-based cases of COVID-19. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended the closure and the local school districts followed those recommendations.
It is MAP’s policy to follow the school closure alerts for your local school districts in the regions. On March 19, 2020, Governor Tate Reeves announced that the State of Mississippi was closing all public schools statewide until April 17, 2020. This is the latest information that we have received regarding a possible date for re-opening. We are not certain whether we will re-open on that date as it depends on what the State of MS decides as they continue to analyze the spread of the virus in our state.
The MAP family is very concerned about the health, safety and education of our children. We will comply with all mandated closures and follow all recommendations on school closure issued by the Center for Disease Control. We urge each of you to limit your contact with others and to stand a minimum of 6 feet apart when you do interact with people outside the home. Door handles, bathrooms, kitchen areas in the home should be wiped down frequently throughout the day. You should talk with your children frequently about any concerns they may have about the virus and how it could affect them. The mental health of our children is as important as their physical health.
We want our children to continue to be prepared for the next school year. Please check the MAP webpage at
www.mapheadstart.org for suggested at home school activities in a few days.
Stay Safe,
Bobby E. Brown
