ASSISTANT CENTER ADMINISTRATOR
Thompson Head Start Center



Description:
Supervise center staff in the absence of the Center Administrator.
• Inform the Center Administrator of staffing needs and changes immediately.
• Assist in mid-year and annual performance evaluations of center staff. 
• Maintain an up-to-date listing of all staff credentials and records on professional development pursuit status for those pursuing degree course work to assure staff progress towards educational requirements as supported by MAP and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Monitor the use of supplies, equipment, and materials to ensure sufficient operating levels are available at all times; report waste and abuse to the Center Administrator immediately; prepare and submit requests for replenishment as needed in accordance with established RFS procedures. 
• Attend monthly Parent Committee to establish and support positive rapport with parents. 
• Perform other duties as requested by the Center Administrator.
• Assist in the coordination and arrangement of services in all functional areas, utilizing internal and external resources to provide quality service as deemed appropriate for each enrolled family to include but may not be limited to the following areas: 
• Monitor all classrooms daily to observe staff:child interactions and to assure staff:child ratio is being maintained.
• Notify the Center Administrator immediately of staffing or Teacher needs identified.
• Ensure cleaning schedules are posted and followed accordingly; report variances to the Center Administrator immediately.
• Assure daily walk-through of playground areas prior to children’s outside activities.
• Submit bi-weekly written report on center operations to Center Administrator.
• Create and/or maintain up-to-date documentation as appropriate to support center operations.
• Regular written memos, correspondence, and reports.
• Responsible for monthly safety checks, fire drills, safety meetings, and updating the safety log.
• Investigate any child or staff incidents, assuring all forms are complete and notifying the appropriate authorities and/or supervisor.
• Implement and supports “best practices” in early education programming in conjunction with the early childhood staff when applicable.
• Responsible for monitoring and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and standards, as well as with any state and federal contracts, health, safety, and childcare licensing regulations and renewal.
 
Requirements:
Associates Degree or above in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or an equivalent combination.
• Strong knowledge of Head Start practice of Early Childhood Development.
• Working knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care regulatory environment, and child development or social service programs or related areas in a non-profit organization. 
• Demonstrated experience in administration and supervision, office management, case management, or related areas.
• Oral and written communication skills, which support positive feedback among operational levels.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, problem-solve, and effectively handle multiple tasks. 
• Ability to accurately transcribe verbal communications to written format.
• Occasional lifting of 50 lbs.
• Some kneeling, stooping, bending, and extended periods of sitting throughout the day.
• Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time throughout the day.
• Ability to travel, sometimes overnight and with short notice.
