BUS MONITOR
Belmont Head Start Center



Description:
Position Purpose:  This position will assist the bus driver in providing safe and punctual transportation to and from classroom sites. Serves as the Agency’s ambassador by greeting the children and parents. This position observes and monitors the behavior of the children and interacts with parents and staff to promote the well-being of children. 
 
Essential Job Responsibilities 
• Assist children in boarding and exiting the bus.
• Assist driver in completion of daily sign-on and off sheets. Accounting by name, all children getting on and off the bus.
• Interacts with children during the route. 
• Ensure that all children are secured in 
• Perform a complete visual safety check of each bus driven on a daily basis, completing daily pre and post-trip checklists.
• Keep the interior of the bus clean and sanitized between routes daily and the bus interior as needed. 
• Report any needed repairs and deliver the bus to the repair site.
• Record mileage and gas.
• Pick up supplies as needed.
• Other duties as requested


Location: Belmont, MS 
 
Requirements:
Knowledge/Skills/Experiences
• High school diploma or GED
• Working knowledge of preschool children's behavior and developmental stages, typically gained by working one year or more in a school or preschool setting. 
• Knowledge of safety practices as they relate to preschool children. 
• Good written and oral communication skills and basic math skills. 
• Ability to maintain schedules while meeting the individual needs of children and families.
 
Physical/Mental Abilities and Processes
• Physical capability, strength, and coordination are adequate to safely drive a 20-and-up passenger bus. 
• Ability to visually assess the health and behaviors of children.
• Intermediate-level decisions needed to adhere to safety and scheduling considerations. 
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., typically placing children into seats, and the ability to carry or drag a child from the bus to a safe place in an emergency. 
• Frequent bending at the neck, frequent bending at the waist and knees, and occasional squatting.
• Occasional climbing to enter and exit bus.
• Daily sitting about 85% of driving time.
