Scholarships Awarded in Region III

The Lauderdale County Council continued it's scholarhip awards this year. Three students who began their education in Head Start were selected from the six applications submitted. Each of the recipients will receive a scholarship of $500.00 to be presented in August with the TV station in attendance.

The scholarships went to Tanesha Lard who will attend Stillman College; Meissa Thomas who will attend Meridian Community College; and Ezontae′ Johnson who will attend East Mississippi Community College.

Lard began at Toomsuba Head Start Center. Thomas and Johnson began at East End Head Start Center. The committee selection was based on the applicant's goals and their essay entitled, "What Impact Attending Head Start Had On My Personal Life and Academic Success."

Plans are to continue the program as an inspiration to parents to send their children to Head Start knowing that the benefits of attending exceeds the initial program.
